ScreenLinks non-accredited short course screen writing series is designed to bring out the best in emerging writers across all genres.
Writing A Short Film
This two-day course will help you to write your short film. Aimed at giving an introduction to the form, the course will take you through the process of writing a short film. Concept development – finding the heart of your story Formatting and layout – techniques for presenting your script Building your story – what happens next? Character development – creating engaging characters Dialogue/ subtext – easier said than done Rewriting – making your story great

Short Films - From Start to Finish
Short films can take a lot of time and energy. This one-day course looks at how you can make your short film worth the effort - from concept development and production to festivals and potential sales.
Concept development – coming up with a good idea and getting it on paper.
Financing – to self fund or not to self fund – putting together an application for funding.
Production and Post Production – options for making your film.
Marketing and Distribution – getting your film seen.

Script Clinic
You’ve written your short film but want to take it further. This course gives you one on one script doctoring to help bring out the best in your story.
Places strictly limited for one hour consultation. Scripts will be sent in advance of clinic.

Simon Portus: Simon has been making films for over ten years. His most recent short film Tomorrow premiered at the Berlin International Film festival in 2009. Since then it has gone on to win several awards including Best Screenplay and Best Direction at the 2010 Flickerfest Film Festival and was nominated for an AWGIE (Australain Writers Guild) Award. Tomorrow has shown at various festivals in both Australia and overseas and has most recently been sold to Italian Pay TV.
Simon is currently working on several feature films. Loveless, a comedy has had several rounds of development funding from Screen Australia and is being executive produced by Tim White (Boys Are Back, Two Hands, Gettin’ Square) and Leah Churchill-Brown (Suburban Mayhem, Beautiful Kate).
